The palate is rich and bold, showing depth and concentration. Flavours of dark cherry, raspberry jam, blueberry liquor, dark chocolate, vanilla and chewy tobacco leaves are well melted together to bring a now homogenous wine, hitting its peak NOW. The finish is very impressive and long, offering white pepper, oak spices and lengthy soft tannins. These kinds of well-rounded wines are not usually available at this price point. Very impressive. The salty characteristic that we have come to expected from that small vineyard is also present in every sip again this time around. A short time in neutral barrels helped soften the edges of this very well defined wine. Ilya Senchuk was one of the first to plant  clone 548 Chardonnay in Niagara and 12 years later he has put together his very first single clone\/single vineyard Chardonnay. 100% of the spectacular 2020 fruits are sourced from a small one acre block of the Leaning Post home vineyard, the Senchuk Vineyard in the Lincoln Lakeshore sub-appellation. On the nose, incredible aromas of lemon meringue, white peach, Asian pear and caramel. Floral notes such as lemongrass and flint are also present as I might have expected.  On the palate I encounter a fresh wine, young with character, lively and cerebral, but friendly enough to make it approachable, along with a rich mid-palate to remind everybody that it comes from the 2020 vintage. The finesse and the delicacy go hand in hand with a structured body. Dominant flavours of sweet lemon cake, yellow apple, a hint of peach and a tremendous continuity between seashell minerality and pure salinity. This medium-bodied Chardonnay is lake satin in your mouth, and expands with savoury layers, energized by focused acidity, and a long, textural finish. Only 65 cases made. This round, medium to full-bodied, ripe, straight-up sexy Cab Franc-Merlot dominant has ripe yet present tannins, good overall balance, and a greatly complex finish. I have to say, the generous portion of Petit Verdot shines and really influences the profile of this wine.  The tannins are feisty at the moment, which is expected at this stage (pre-release) but will settle down in the next couple of years. It's another impressive Niagara-on-the-Lake wine, in a vintage that had real challenges but clearly, it delivers all the way. The tannins are grippy at the moment but this will resolve over time. The highlight of this wine is the very very long, lingering finish with white pepper and cloves.
