Rare varietals, exceptional value!

Excellent value and rare, well made varietals from a hidden Niagara gem called Battersea Wines.

Alt image

Julie Enns calls herself the palate behind the barrel, working alongside three different Collab winemakers who each bring their own hand to her wines.

I opened four bottles from her this month and every single one overdelivered for the price. There's a sparkling made from ten different varietals off a tiny test vineyard block - absolutely delicious and only $20 including tax. There's a Rhone white blend built the Niagara way, fresh instead of heavy. A rare single varietal Marsanne. And a Cabernet blend that also over-delivers for the $24 incl tax ask.

This is exactly the kind of Canadian wine story I started this club to find!

Fruits from a test vineyard on the Beamsville Bench. 10 different varietals were blended in this fun and joyful sparkling. Led by grapes like Gruner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc, Viognier, Pinot Meunier, and Auxerois, this bubbly delivers soft layers of orchard fruit wrapped around a solid frame of acidity, keeping the structure upright and efficient. The bubbles are small and very pleasing. Nose of peach,  pear, orange peel, lavender and chamomile. The flavours are expressive and surprisingly well balanced for $20. You can expect flavours of white peach, sweet lemon, grapefruit and yellow apple.  One of my top wines for summer this year! (Carl Boucher, May 2026).

A blend of almost equal parts Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne, this white Rhone varietal blend is made truly in a Niagara style. What do I mean by that? Instead of rich, thick and dense, like this type of blend is usually offered, Battersea is going the other way; crisp, refreshing, lively and balanced. This blend dances in your mouth with great acidity. (Carl Boucher, July 15, 2026).

2025 Battersea Marsanne, Mio Vineyard | 92pts

$22.00

From the spectacular "Mio Vineyard" on the Beamsville Bench, this rare single varietal Marsanne wine was made fresh and lively. This wine has lots of energy. On the nose, the aromas are super expressive and  offers fresh tropical fruits like pineapple and passionfruit, but also confit lemon and orange blossoms. The palate is also vibrant and well-balanced with great acidity. I see a consistent style in all Julie's wines where freshness and fluidity prevail.  Dominant flavours of pineapple, crisp blood orange, lemon meringue and a hint of ginger spices on the finish.  Another incredible value wine from Battersea! (Carl Boucher, July 15, 2026).

This red blend is built on precision and definition. Good weight, soft texture, defined edges and pin-point acidity. The 10% Petit Verdot plays an important role in many aspects including the dark purple colour and the floral aromas. On the palate  you'll find flavours of dark cherry, red currant, graphite, espresso coffee, cedar and loads of spice on the back-end.  There’s a great synergy between the two Cabernets as well. Wonderful quality for $24 tax in.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this work?

Carl's Wine Club is Canada's first pan-Canadian, direct-to-consumer wine club.

Being a member of the wine club is FREE and you have access to our informative emails and our live virtual events with Carl to learn more about Canadian wineries.

We feature a different Canadian winery every 1-2 weeks with a specially curated mix of wines. You choose if and how much wine to purchase, with winery direct pricing and shipping deals.

On Wednesdays (yes Wine Wednesdays!) we also go LIVE on our social media platforms to chat about Canadian wine and often interview winemakers. Cheers!

How does shipping work?

The wineries ship these wines to you via couriers like Canada Post, UPS, Purolator, ATS or GLS and the wines arrive right to your doorstep! No need to spend time or gas or manpower to visit a store.

Your wines will ship within 1-2 weeks of your order date, as wineries ship out our club orders all together in a few batches. You'll receive a tracking number from our system and sometimes also from the winery's system.

Someone over the legal drinking age must be present at the time of delivery and provide ID to the delivery driver (this is a legal requirement). Please do your best to ensure that an adult is available to receive the order on the anticipated delivery date.

What if there's a problem with my order or wines?

We will be very happy to assist you if there are any issues, and find a suitable solution. Please contact us at carl@carlswineclub.com or call 587-899-8249.
