Here's exactly why I rated these wines the way I did...

2024 Bella Terra Wild Ferment Riesling 🔥 93pts

$32.77

Collector Price: $29.00

This small batch Niagara-on-the-Lake Riesling includes about 30% botrytis affected grapes, also known as noble rot, giving it concentration, complexity and texture. It delivers more like an Alsatian style rather than the classic German style which is more common in Niagara. The nose is gorgeous and expressive with wild flowers, tropical fruit, and a hint of citrus throughout. The palate is thick and textural with stunning balance between a lifted acidity, mid palate weight, length and complexity. The palate showcases flavours of apricots, white peach, cantaloupe, and a key component of sweet lime. The finish is very classic for Niagara Riesling with flinty minerality that lingers and evolves. This wine is just getting started and will improve for at least a decade. The price point is more than perfect...a fantastic value! Plus...the first time I tasted it I blurted out that it is like sex in a bottle. So good!

2023 Bella Terra Viognier | 91pts

$27.12

Collector Price: $24.00

This is a beautifully balanced Viognier. Not too heavy, not too lean. Just right. It’s drinking absolutely beautifully right now, with a front palate full of rich tropical and orchard fruit. The mid-palate has the perfect weight, giving the wine presence without ever feeling overdone. Then the finish lingers nicely with that classic white spice. Viognier may not be a widely planted grape in Niagara, but this is one of the finest examples you’ll find. (Carl Boucher, March 5, 2026).

Beautiful mousse and super lively bubbles. There is a lot of energy in this wine.

The nose is expressive with bright aromas of Maraschino cherry and tropical fruits. There is 10 g/l of residual sugar but a great acidity and low alcohol, which makes this sexy Bubbly very well balanced and appealing.

I bet the Vidal was harvested fairly early to preserve this great deal of acidity. The palate is filled with blueberry and raspberry. A very long expression on the mid-palate transitions slowly to peach and pineapple. There is a nice crisp and bright gingery finish to add an extra dimension.

Lively, fresh and versatile are some of the best descriptives for this well priced bottle of Bubbly. (Carl Boucher, August 11, 2023, Re-tasted September 15, 2024).

2020 Bella Terra Cabernet Sauvignon | 93+pts

$79.10

Collector Price: $70.00

This is purely Cabernet Sauvignon….powerful and grippy, yet this wine also displays freshness and elegance. With nearly 15% alcohol, I’m impressed with how well it integrates at this early stage. I can feel the oak influence but it is not inappropriate, even shortly after bottling. The nose first offers an abundance of pencil shavings, pipe tobacco, licorice, black currant and fresh sage while the front palate displays blackberry, black cherry, ripe raspberry and dark chocolate. The mid palate is filled with espresso coffee, fresh herbs, tobacco leaves and cedar. The finish is long and complex, spicy with white pepper and cardamon. Some extra time in the bottle will help to tame the tannins. Decanting is strongly recommended. (CWC, 10/10/22).

2020 Bella Terra Meritage 🔥 93+pts

From the time this wine was blended and sitting in barrels, it has been the most fascinating of the four big guns of the 2020 vintage from Bella Terra (Merlot, Cab Franc, Cab Sauv and Meritage).

Early on in barrel, it was tight, the tannins were aggressive, and the oak was up front, but deep down I knew this wine has something special. A delicate and elegant inside was there, like an “iron fist in a velvet glove.” Here we are now after bottling, and this wine is starting to shine, starting to deliver on its promise - and this is very exciting.

On the nose, aromas of cassis, plum, black cherry, cedar, vanilla and chocolate are now more expressive and shinning throughout. The palate is softer, rounder and prettier, offering flavours of blackberry, black cherry, cassis, fresh cut herbs, tobacco leaves and mocha, before the finish brings a great mix of spices and a hint of charcoal minerality. Another spectacular wine from a spectacular vintage. (Carl Boucher, Oct 1, 2022, re-tasted Aug. 12, 2024)

This wine is starting to be more approachable and has moved to the next level in terms of texture. It's developing into a silky, creamy and powerful wine with incredible depth and complexity. It still needs another year or two in bottle or a good decanting, but it is heading exactly into wine stardom! (Carl Boucher, re-tasted March 5, 2026).

93pts Carl’s Wine Club

A “big boy” wine… big, rich and concentrated! At the top end of the full-body spectrum. This is still young and up-front, but time will bring balance and softness to this wine. It’s definitely built for the long run with good, proper and effective usage of oak. The nose is explosive with aromas of blueberry jam, plum, coffee grind and licorice. The palate mirrors the nose effectively and also offers richness and concentration in flavours, but also complexity and length. The finish is spicy offering notes of nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves. After Tasting the 2015 vintage of this wine (94pts), I have a clear understanding of the long-term potential of this vintage… and it is very promising! (Carl Boucher, August 2, 2022).

Tasted live during the Cab Franc Marathon and was rated #2 wine amongst 55+ Canadian Cab Francs from Coast to Coast (September 2025).

This wine has hit it's prime potential and shows a solid structure that has softened beautifully. A pure and gorgeous expression of NOTL Cab Franc. (Carl Boucher, March 5, 2026).

2022 Bella Terra Cabernet Franc 🔥93pts

$49.72

Collector Price: $44.00

The 2022 Bella Terra Cabernet Franc just won Double Gold at the All-Canadian Wine Championships, meaning it stood at the very top of its category. I have to say, I completely agree with that result.

Where Four Mile Creek Cabernet Franc is often known for producing bigger, bolder styles, the 2022 Bella Terra leans more toward an Old World expression, shaped by a cooler vintage. It shows more red fruit than black fruit, with beautiful freshness and precision. The wine is crisp, complex, and remarkably long on the finish.

At 93 points, this is an absolute beauty! (Carl Boucher, March 5, 2026).

It has a nose of fresh-cut citrus, green apple, brioche and some notes of toasty barrels. The 2017 Blanc de Blanc boasts fresh flavours of green apple, young pear and key lime, followed by toasty buttery notes reminiscent of fresh baked croissants and brioche. This wine is fresh, dry, lively and filled with tension and energy… the palate also displays a lasting and vigorous mousse that lasts forever and bring creaminess through the finish.
