Canada's #1 Rosé Master, Six Years Running.

Small-batch wines from Daniel Bontorin at Bottega Wine Studio, in the Similkameen Valley, BC.

Alt image

I've been following Daniel Bontorin's wines for years now, and fun fact, his winery was our very first featured winery in Carl's Wine Club, back in 2020!

What he and Kristine have built in Cawston is unlike anything else in Canada: a rose-first vineyard and winery. It's no wonder he's held the #1 rosé I've tasted in the country for six consecutive years, or that many of his wines are scoring 92 to 94 points consistently and turning heads far beyond BC.

I haven't stopped going back to these bottles since I opened them. They're that compelling. Purpose-built, world-class, and yes, age-worthy in a way that will surprise you, even the rose!

Twenty years of obsessing over one thing, and their first Grenache rosé from their own Similkameen vineyard is one seriously exciting payoff.

I hope you can join us to discover this one!

2025 Bottega Viognier 🔥94pts

$40.00

This 2025 Viognier might just be one of the best wines that Daniel Bontorin has ever made, and that says a lot, because he's made some spectacular wines. Fruits from the Similkameen and the Okanagan, were partially fermented in neutral oak barrels as well as stainless steel.

The aromatics are rich and expressive highlighting white peach, white flowers, fresh apricots, mandarins, and a line of lemon peel. The palate is rich, full bodied, but showing elegance, and surprising acidity, and wonderful texture. It's everything you can expect from a world class Viognier, with great balance. The fruit on the mid-palate are really precise; tons of orchard fruits, beautiful citrus to keep everything lifted, pear and apricot. And then there's the finish. A long, long, chalky finish.

An absolute beauty! One of the very best white wines from BC that I've tasted in years, outside of a Chardonnay. A holy smokes, rockstar of an incredible wine with a great likelihood of being one of my Top 10 Wines tasted in 2026. (Carl Boucher, May 20, 2026).

Dry Wine | Drink from 2026 to 2034

Pairings: roasted brie with apricot and honey, saffron lobster risotto

2025 Seven Directions Grenache Rose 🔥 94pts

$42.00

This is a spectacular release and the highly anticipated first Estate Grenache Rosé under the Seven Directions label. For such a young vineyard, this wine is flat-out exceptional — and it already speaks the language of the Similkameen with that deep, stony minerality the Valley does like nowhere else.

100% barrel fermented, this rosé is sumptuous and rich, while still delivering outstanding structure and precision. The nose is not only pretty… it's deeply satisfying and instantly puts a smile on your face. Give it enough time to open up, and this becomes a true "holy sh*t" moment. The aromatics are incredibly fragrant and precise — alpine strawberries, fresh cranberries, ambrosia apple, white peach, dragon fruit, and a subtle touch of oak barrel.

The palate follows the same path beautifully, loaded with strawberries and cream, crabapple, sour cherry, and tangerine. The mid-palate is perfectly structured with vibrant acidity and beautifully integrated oak, while the finish is simply ridiculous… that long, salty mineral finish lingers for what feels like five minutes 😊

Like most wines made by Daniel Bontorin, this one asks for time to breathe and almost always drinks even better on the second day. This is a decadent wine.

94 points | BC VQA Okanagan Valley | 100% Grenache

Dry Wine | 13.0% ABV | Drink from 2026 to 2032

Pairings: grilled bc spot prawns with butter, rack of lamb

2025 Seven Directions Pinot Noir Rose🔥 93pts

$32.00

A wonderful expression of what rose master Daniel Bontorin does each vintage! Outstanding acidity, structure, complexity and tremendous texture. 100% Pinot Noir from the Similkameen, including a small portion from the Solum Rosa estate vineyard, fermented in neutral French oak and in stainless steel.

Strawberry, peach, a hint of floral, cherry and lemon on the nose. The palate has strawberries and cream, berries, and a tonne of lifted citrus, as well as a saline and complex finish. This is super premium rose, with a beautiful delivery. (Carl Boucher, May 20, 2026).

Dry Wine | 13.0% ABV | Drink from 2026 to 2032

Pairings: grilled peach burrata salad, seared halibut w strawberry beurre blanc

2024 Seven Directions Cuvee Rose | 89+pts

$22.00

The 2024 rose cuvee is a rare wine made from BC during the dramatic 'deep freeze' vintage that absolutely decimated the grape crop across the Okanagan and Similkameen. Daniel sourced fruits from BC's lower mainland (Fraser Vallery). A blend of Pinot Noir, Gamay, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, all fermented in stainless steel tanks with extensive lees stirring.

This wine has texture and volume as well as great acidity and freshness. There is a funk on the nose that is a little different than what I normally see from this winery. Kiwi, peach, apple, and a hint of strawberry dominate the nose and palate. At only $22, this is an interesting patio proposition for Summer. (Carl Boucher, May 24, 2026).

2022 K Little Cabernet Franc | 92pts

$34.00

I really like this wine. 95% Cab Franc, 5% Merlot, with fruits from Oliver and Osoyoos. Cab Franc is becoming quite a star grape in the South Okanagan, and this is a great example why. The nose is fantastic! Exuberant yet precise. Lots of dark fruit, dark cherry, black plum, with a little bit of violet and vanilla. The palate is well balanced, with good weight on the mid palate. I really enjoyed the complexity for the price point. Cassis, blueberry, dark cherry, tobacco, dark chocolate brownies and white pepper on the finish. (Carl Boucher, May 23, 2026).

Dry Wine | RS: 2.3g/L | 13.5% ABV | Drink from 2026 to 2030

Pairings: venison burger with caramelized onions, smoked brisket with espresso glaze

2022 K Little Red | 90+pts

$28.00

2022 is shaping up to be an amazing vintage across the board in BC. An elegant blend of 64% Merlot and 36% Cab Franc, with fruits from Oliver. On the nose, red and black fruits like raspberry, cherry and black currant as well as a hint of wildflowers, tobacco and savouriness.

The palate is mid-bodied, fresh, with great complexity given the price point. Flavours of blackberry, red cherry, chocolate and light spice on the finish. Crushable and very versatile. (Carl Boucher, May 24, 2026).

$24.00

With 66% Chard and 34% Gewurz, this wine is easy drinking, crisp and surprisingly harmonious. I never thought these two varietals could go so well together.

Tropical fruits on the nose with herciousness and lychee. The palate is refreshing with pear, yellow apple, tropical fruits and that feeling of summer. (Carl Boucher, May 24, 2026).

2023 Bottega Cab Franc 🔥94pts

$64.00

When I first tasted this wine, it was in barrel, and I immediately know this was going to be something extremely special. Two barrels made, and upon bottling, it was tasted in our Cab Franc Marathon live with over 56 Canadian Cab Francs; it tied for first place at 94 points. Absolutely outstanding, and even better than I was expecting! Down the road, I believe this wine will be, and should be, one of the most sought after bottles in BC.

2024 Bottega "Tractor & Vines" Pinot Noir 🔥93+pts

$78.00

One of the rarest Pinot Noirs you can find out of British Columbia. First because it's from the 2024 vintage: remember the cold snap, where BC lost most of its grapes? Yes, the famous Tractor & Vines Vineyard in Summerland survived and produced half a ton of pristine Pinot Noir grapes. The result is tremendous.

From clone 667, this is a small, tiny batch of just 40 cases. That's all. Aged 8 months in second fill French oak, this Pinot Noir shows depth, texture, structure, length and complexity. Basically everything you can ask for in a premium BC Pinot Noir.

On the nose, earthy aromas of forest floor, violet, black currant, crushed raspberry and a hint of tobacco. The palate is fresh and dense with fantastic complexity. Flavours of dark fruits on the front palate — dark currant and black plum — while a red fruit profile appears on the mid palate. Raspberry and sour cherry melt with oak spices and savouriness, driven by firm, sleek tannins and bright acidity. The finish is long and remarkable, with great layers of lingering spices.

2023 Bottega Merlot | 92pts

$54.00

Made from 92% Merlot and 8% Cab Franc with South Okanagan fruits and aged in neutral French oak for 18 months. This is not an oaky Merlot but the integration brings a beautiful texture and it is surprisingly precise. The aromas are savoury, blue fruits, dark fruits, currants, cherries, cassis, tobacco and dark chocolate.

The palate is going to evolve a lot over the next five years and is currently very young. Currently it has great tension, precision, acidity, rugged tanins, and needs a good decant; but I can project a fantastic future for it with some age.

On the palate, dark fruits like black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, lots of dark chocolate, spice and vanilla. Pretty much everything you can expect from a great Merlot. (Carl Boucher, May 24, 2026).
