2022 Lailey Sparkling – 90+pts CWC, Bronze Wine Aiign

I always appreciate a sparkling with freshness and texture. It doesn’t hurt to have a touch of sweetness, which brings softness and complexity. When you attached the name of Karl Kaiser to a wine, it should be a draw. These vines were planted by the famous winemaker all the way back in the 80’. Palate and nose of peach, pear, apple, candied lemon and toasted notes. Perfect for aperitif otherwise very versatile.

2021 Lailey “Reserve Rose” Cabernet Sauvignon – 90+pts CWC, 90pts Decanter, 93pts Rick Van Sickle

This is a single-vineyard, old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé from the legendary Lailey heritage block, extracted using the Saignée method, then barrel-fermented and aged four months in French oak.

On the nose, loads of raspberry, raspberry, black cherry, a pretty line of minerality, and that signature Cab Sauv herbal edge. On the palate, it opens up with lemon peel, blood orange, pomegranate, and red currant. The finish is long and beautifully fruity. For a 2021, this is surprisingly lively.

2022 Lailey “Off-Dry” Riesling – 92+pts CWC. Gold WineAlign, Gold Sommelier Choice Award

At $26, this wine is an outstanding value. Everything scream Riesling here. The nose is pure and classic… purely Riesling. The palate is textural and lively. The natural acidity is right there, but not austere. Flavors of green and yellow apple, lemon zest and beautiful chalky minerality on the finish. I’m a big fan.

2022 Lailey Chardonnay “sur lie” – 91pts CWC, 92pts David Lawrson

Fermented and aged in tank, this Chardonnay was held on its lies for an extended period of time, which reflect well its creamy texture, multiple layers of flavours and above average complexity. The nose is floral, citrussy and leesy. The palate has more complexity than expected with sweet lemon curd, yellow apple, peach and a touch of toasted almond on the back-end. The finish is slightly saline and chalky. For $26, this is fantastic.

2022 Lailey Meritage – Exclusive release for CWC – 92pts CWC

Co-fermented blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec, this medium body blend spent 17 months in French oak barrels. Crisp, well-balanced and very satisfying for under $40. The nose is expressive with aromas of dark fruits, vanilla, dark chocolate and fresh herbs. The palate display black cherry, blueberry, red current, savoury edges and lengthy charcoal-like mineral finish. The texture is very soft and silky. At that price, I can drink that all day long….

2022 Lailey Cabernet Franc – Exclusive pre-release, 92+ptsCWC

With 23months of French oak aging, this Cab Franc display a great mix of freshness, power, finesse and complexity. Classic Niagara in his entire profile, there is no green edges anywhere. Aromas of black cherry, red currant, chocolate brownies, tobacco and fresh sage. The palate is precise and well define, reflecting the nose to the T and showing a spectacular finish with loads of white pepper and oak spices. Not to mention that I really like the texture of the tannins. This wine should ae very well This is a premium delivery, and $34 is definitely a deal.

2022 Lailey Field Blend – 91pt CWC, Silver Medal WineAlin

A very unique blend of 52% Chardonnay, 36% Pinot Noir, 10% Muscat, 2% Sauvignon Blanc, all harvested, pressed and fermented together. Fruity and approachable, pure and expressive, this wine provide joy and happiness: at least its how I felt when I tasted it. A surprising length and complexity takes this wine to the upper echelon. On the nose, aromas of peach, orange, chamomile, and zesty grapefruit are sublimely enjoyable. Did mentioned that I like the nose 😊. The palate is refined and sophisticated mirroring the aromas. This wine is very well made despite the complex assemblage. Very well layered.

2022 Riesling “Wild Ferment” – 92pts CWC, 92pts David Lawrason, 92pts John Szabo

This very tiny batch of only 100 cases of wild fermented Riesling has hit every cords possible. Bone-dry, expressive, not overly “wild” of funky, this is a hit. On the nose, wild aromas of grapefruits, passion fruits, pear, honeysuckle and a good amount of floral distinction. The palate is filled with natural acidity, but also show softness and restrain. Super complex and great length. In term of flavours, you’ll find green apple, orange zest, peach and pear, while the finish display a hint of ginger. Wild and fun… I like that wine a lot!

2022 Chardonnay “Wild Ferment” – 93pts CWC, 93pts Rick VanSickle, Gold Medal WineAlign

You probably know already, but I am a sucker for a good Chardonnay. This one is right up my alley. No, honestly, this is really freaking good. Textural but showing precision, nervy and well defined, the only problem with this wild ferment Chardonnay (only 110 cases produced), its that it will run out too fast, there is simply not enough of that 😊. The oak profile is just stunning, the salinity and the chalky finish is also stunning. Aromas of yellow apple, lemon meringue, jasmine, butterscotch and almond. The palate is rich and energetic, the acidity is pulsing. Flavours of orchard fruits, with hint of citrus, also some clear barrel influence on the mid-palate and finish. Two thumbs up Peter Gamble!!!

2022 “Wild Ferment” Pinot Noir – 93pts Rick VanSickle, Silver Medal WineAlign, 91pts Natalie Mclean

To be tasted LIVE in Burgundy

2022 Zweigelt – 92+pts CWC, 93pts Rick VanSickle,

This is the last vintage of this wine, made from the original, 35 years old vines at the Iconic Lailey Vineyard. These vines produced some of the very best Zweigelt in North America for 3 decades. With 23 months in mostly neutral oak barrels, this wine show a fantastic blend of fruity and earthy character. Aromas of dark cherry, raspberry, violet and forest floor makes it for a very complex and intriguing nose. The palate offers perfect weight, appropriate acidity level, soft texture and tremendous length. The tannins are still a tad rugged, but it fits the profile… and will soften over the next few years anyway. This is the wine to purchase if you want to impress your geeky friends.

2021 “Wild Ferment” Malbec – 93pts CWC, Gold Medal WineAlign

Lets put it this way, I’m not a fan of heavy, high alcohol level and jammy Malbec. This one is right up my alley. From some of the oldest Malbec vines in Canada (if not the oldest, but not 100% sure), this single vineyard Malbec spent 22 months in oak barrels. Earthy and floral aromas, also displaying blue and dark fruits like blueberry and plum. Dark chocolate and sweet tobacco leaves also enter the profile at the right time and place. The palate is medium-body and this is the perfect fit stylistically for this wine, very appropriate. Lifted with bright acid, judicious oak profile and perfect balance, the most special attribute to this wine is the finish. OMG… the spices and the tannins linger for almost 30 second. I’m very impressed. Stock up on this one if you like Malbec. Very limited quantity available… (only 165 cases produced)
