Canadian wine lover, meet Domaine Queylus!

After sharing the wines of the legendary Thomas Bachelder last week, it seems only fitting that this week, we place the spotlight on the wines of another very talented winemaker whom Thomas has personally mentored: Kelly Mason, along with assistant winemaker Brooke Husband, at Domaine Queylus.

Queylus was started by a group of Quebecois investors including one of the world's most renowned wine collectors, Champlain Charest. The first bottlings were in 2010 and the tasting room opened in 2014. Thomas Bachelder handed off the winemaking reins to Kelly and Brooke in 2018.

We first tasted many of the Queylus wines when we visited Niagara with members in 2023, and we were impressed. I'm excited to bring you a 'flash spotlight' on this winery for the first time in our club's history!

The Winemakers

Kelly Mason | Head Winemaker

Kelly was born and raised in Montreal. Her winemaking career began in 2007 in the Carneros subregion of Napa Valley with an internship at Saintsbury Winery under a Burgundian winemaker.

She then studied Winemaking at Brock University before working first at Tawse Winery and then at Le Clos Jordanne, always focused on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. She also owns and farms the Mason Vineyard on the 20 Mile Bench, planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc.

Kelly joined the Domaine Queylus team in the summer of 2013 and became Head Winemaker in 2018.

Brooke Husband | Assistant Winemaker

Brooke graduated from the Niagara College Winery and Viticulture program in 2018 and during her studies she worked at Domaine Queylus for her first harvest. She then worked in the Okanagan Valley at Black Hills Estate Winery.

When she returned to Niagara, she knew her passion was wild fermented Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Brooke has worked at Domaine Queylus since 2017. In 2022 received the KML Top-30-Under-30 award for Hospitality in Canada, and in 2023 she was awarded The Paul Pender Rising Star Award from the Ontario Wine Awards.

How does this work?

Carl's Wine Club is Canada's first pan-Canadian, direct-to-consumer wine club.

Being a member of the wine club is FREE and you have access to our informative emails and our live virtual events with Carl to learn more about Canadian wineries.

We feature a different Canadian winery every 1-2 weeks with a specially curated mix of wines. You choose if and how much wine to purchase, with winery direct pricing and shipping deals.

Is the order page secure?

Yes, absolutely! We use a secure website and order page, with all credit card information processed by a PCI-compliant payment processor and bank-grade SSL encryption of your data.

What size bottles will I receive?

All bottles are 750ml (standard wine bottles) unless otherwise noted. There may be a different size bottle for instance for Magnums at 1.5L or smaller bottles for Ice Wines.

How does shipping work?

Shipping of wines is done from the featured winery directly, unless you're ordering a 'Mystery Pack' or other limited edition pack. Shipping is available to Canadian locations only. Shipping is usually completed by Courier, however Canada Post is used for rural or remote locations. You will receive a tracking number from the winery or courier system. Someone over the legal drinking age must be present at the time of delivery and provide ID to the delivery driver (this is a legal requirement). Please do your best to ensure that an adult is available to receive the order on the anticipated delivery date.
