Meet Mio Vineyard: one of Niagara's best kept secrets for wine lovers (for now!)

Corey and Lena Mio have farmed their Lincoln Lakeshore vineyard since 2019, driven by an obsession with Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc clones and a desire to craft small-production wines with generous texture, precise acidity and expressive oak.

Corey and Lena Mio started Mio Vineyard from scratch in 2019, planting at the foot of the Niagara Escarpment in Lincoln Lakeshore.

They are growers first, obsessed with exploring Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc through different clones, including 14 Chardonnay clones from France, Italy and California.

Their wines are made at Collab alongside Jeff Moote and the team, combining meticulous work in the vineyard with minimal intervention in the cellar.

Here’s what struck me: these are tiny-production, vineyard-driven wines with tremendous personality, yet the prices are almost impossible to understand.

The $35 Chardonnay is a buy-by-the-case wine, while the single-barrel Primo delivers Premier Cru-level precision and complexity.

Now is your chance to discover Mio Vineyard before other wine collectors buy them out before release each year! With only 50 cases of Chardonnay and a handful of Primo bottles available, you’ll need to act quickly.

2024 Sempre Mio Chardonnay (Yellow label) 🔥 93+pts

$35.00
If you like generous and oaky Chardonnay, this one is for you. Fermented and aged for 18 months in neutral oak and 30% new French barrels.

Rich but balanced, concentrated and lifted, this wine is an absolute beauty!

Superb and expressive aromas of white peach, lemon meringue, poached yellow apple and chamomile.  The nose on its own announces a world class wine.

Now the palate: bold and concentrated with tremendously integrated French oak. Flavours of peach, yellow plum, apple pie, sweet citrus, a mid palate full but well defined, and a finish with great oak delivery, blended with great minerality.

At $35, this is a buy by the case wine, but only 50 cases were produced,  so act quickly  😁 (Carl Boucher, July 20, 2026).

2024 Sempre Mio Marsanne | 92pts

$33.00
A co-ferment of 85% Marsanne and 15% Viognier from their own Mio Vineyard on the Lincoln Lakeshore sub-appellation appellation. The one row of Viognier was planted specifically for this wine and the purpose of co-fermenting.

Fermented in neutral oak and one new French puncheon to bring texture, spice and complexity.  On the nose, aromas of peach , apricots, orange blossom and green apples are flawless whale the palate offers a great blend of texture, oak and precision.

Flavours of orchard fruits like yellow plum and apricot evolve towards more tropical delivery like passionfruit and honey melon on the mid palate , but always with an acid lift. The finish is loaded with oak spices. (Carl Boucher, July 20, 2026).

2023 Sempre Mio 'Primo' Chardonnay 🔥 94pts

Sorry, this is now sold out :(

$50.00
This is a single barrel, single vineyard wine. This one specific barrel stood out so much from the others, that Corey Mio and others at Collab unanimously agreed: you've gotta bottle this one separately! And he did. And I'm grateful that he did!
Aromas of yellow apple, lime, yellow plum, pear and jasmine. More precise than generous, this "Reserve" style Chardonnay deserves the spotlight for its energy and precision.  Citrus zest and yellow apple on the front palate, followed by meringue and vanilla, preserved lemon and quince, and highlighting a tremendous mineral finish with undeniable oak spices. The finish is long and simply spectacular.
This is Premier Cru level wine. Less flashy than the yellow label Chard from Sempre Mio, but more complex and more serious. Very well priced for a "one barrel" production and this level of quality.  This could be $85 and I wouldn't bat an eye. (Carl Boucher, July 20, 2026).

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this work?

Carl's Wine Club is Canada's first pan-Canadian, direct-to-consumer wine club.

Being a member of the wine club is FREE and you have access to our informative emails and our live virtual events with Carl to learn more about Canadian wineries.

We feature a different Canadian winery every 1-2 weeks with a specially curated mix of wines. You choose if and how much wine to purchase, with winery direct pricing and shipping deals.

On Wednesdays (yes Wine Wednesdays!) we also go LIVE on our social media platforms to chat about Canadian wine and often interview winemakers. Cheers!

How does shipping work?

The wineries ship these wines to you via couriers like Canada Post, UPS, Purolator, ATS or GLS and the wines arrive right to your doorstep! No need to spend time or gas or manpower to visit a store.

Your wines will ship within 1-2 weeks of your order date, as wineries ship out our club orders all together in a few batches. You'll receive a tracking number from our system and sometimes also from the winery's system.

Someone over the legal drinking age must be present at the time of delivery and provide ID to the delivery driver (this is a legal requirement). Please do your best to ensure that an adult is available to receive the order on the anticipated delivery date.
