Discover FEROX in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario
You don’t come across a winery like this every day. Ferox is bold, precise, and downright fierce—the kind of wines that make you stop, taste, and remember.
German-trained winemaking meets Niagara’s best soils, and the results? Electric.
Scroll down for my tasting notes, and claim your pack before it disappears.
By the way...the founders of Ferox are joining us in Burgundy next year!
Tune in for Wine Wednesday on Sept 24 to meet winemakers Fabian Reis and Cubby Sadoon and see me blind taste one of their Chards alongside another Canadian Chard and a Burgundian Chard.
Do you think I'll be able to tell which one is which? Let's hope my skills tasting 1,500+ Canadian wines per year come in handy for this one!
Cheers,

Bright, flinty, and laser-focused, this is Ferox at their best. On the nose: lemon curd, almond cookie, jasmine, and a touch of struck flint. The palate is precise and tense, with orchard fruit, citrus, and just enough oak to frame the fruit without ever weighing it down. The finish is long and flinty, the kind that keeps you reaching for another sip. Just opening up now, with a prime window over the next 4 years and the structure to age gracefully until 2032+. One of my top Canadian Chardonnays of the year—and a bottle I’ll be packing with me to Burgundy in 2026. (Carl Boucher, Sept 24, 2025).

NV Ferox Vantage White | 91+pts
91.5
- VQA Ontario
- 82% Riesling, 18% Chardonnay
The price point of this wine is absolutely astonishing. I can't believe you can get a wine of this quality for under $17 tax in. Made from three different vintages, this crushable Riesling and Chard blend can be a major crowd pleaser. Great texture, satisfying length, and the right balance between acidity and sweetness. Aromas of white flowers, pineapple, white peach, golden apple: definitely Riesling dominant on the nose. The palate is seductive and balanced, showing no spikes of sweetness, and consistently lifted by acidity. The white peach definitely comes back as a primary flavour, well supported by a hint of tropical fruit, but not forgotten by citrus fruits like confit lemon and yellow apple. Bring that to a party, and you'll be popular. What a hit! Serve chilled. (Carl Boucher, Sept 19, 2025).

NV Ferox Vantage Red | 90+pts
90.5
- VQA Ontario Niagara
- 53% Zweigelt, 18% Merlot, 15% Syrah, 8% Malbec, 6% Cab Franc
This crushable medium body red blend comes with a great price point and is normally only served at restaurants. A great example of a wine where the price point adds half a point to the wine. How can you pass up a well structured red at just $16.95 all in? This unusual blend made mostly of Zweigelt and Syrah is super approachable and surprisingly layered. Aromas of blueberry pie, smoked meat, black cherry and a hint of cinammon. The palate is also approachable with a nice level of acidity and flavours of blueberry, black cherry, blue plum, a little bit of cocoa, a hint of leather and black pepper (on the finish) - all in all, more complex than you'd expect. Makes for great 'cellar insurance' and a wine that puts a smile on my face. A lot of fun! (Carl Boucher, Sept 19, 2025).

2021 Ferox Malbec 🔥93pts 🔥Wine Club Exclusive
93
- Ontario Niagara VQA Niagara Lakeshore
- 100% Malbec
This is truly Old World style wine! Wow! Truly reminescent of a Cahor - the birthplace of Malbec in the southwest of France. Tannic, vibrant, bright acidity, layered and punchy. This wine is built to age. The oak profile hasn't completely finished it's influence, but I can project a slick and stunningly complex final product. On the nose: aromas of dark raspberry, cigar box, graphite, soy sauce, and plum, all dancing and melting together with toasted oak aromas. The palate has blue and black fruits in synergy with espresso coffee, dark licorice, tarragon, black tea, and black cracked pepper. The tannins are still sticky but will resolve with time. This is a wine for the wine geek and collectors. Extremely rare, and extremely good. (Carl Boucher, Sept 19, 2025). Only 50 cases made!

A balanced and earthy red dominated by Merlot and Syrah demonstrates Ferox's Old World approach. Earthy, restrained, and showcasing the purity of each varietal. The nose has earthy, leather undertones, blackberry, plum, a hit of graphite, and mocha. The palate mirrors the old world nose, plus raspberry, herbaciousness, licorice, dark chocolate, and lingering white pepper on the finish. This is a bit like Bordeaux meets Rhone Valley. The tannins are present, not in your face, but very enjoyable. (Carl Boucher, Sept 19, 2025).

2022 Ferox Silver Lion Chardonnay | 91+pts
91.5pts
- Ontario Niagara VQA Niagara Lakeshore
- 100% Chardonnay
I have to agree with winemaker Fabian Reis on this one: this is a true homage to the Chablis style of Chardonnay. We often use these international references, but this unoaked Chard truly lives up to this one with it's nervy, steely, stoney and energetic expression. The nose is pure and totally Chardonnay - almost traditional method-like with a bit of almond and croissant aromas. Citrus and chamomile also support the aromatic profile. On the palate? Lime juice, lime peel, green apple, pink grapefruit. The highlight is the finish with a slight salinity and evolving, layered minerality. This is one of the most serious unoaked Chards I have tasted to date. (Carl Boucher, Sept 19, 2025). 530 cases made.

2023 Ferox Silver Lion Riesling 🔥 93pts
93
- Ontario Niagara-on-the-Lake VQA Four Mile Creek
- 100% Riesling
A German winemaker crafting world-class Riesling? Not shocking. But in one of Niagara’s greatest Riesling vintages? That’s where the magic happens. The result: 93 points on my scale—a true rockstar wine. Precise. Energetic. Textural. Complex. Exactly what I expect from a super-premium Riesling, yet somehow priced at the mid-tier level. Ferox absolutely delivers. The nose bursts with mixed tropical and citrus fruit—Meyer lemon and pineapple dancing in and out. Freshness and layers are evident right away. Then the palate: a stunner. Lime, green apple, Meyer lemon, pineapple, even apricot. The crescendo builds and builds, leading into a 30-second+ finish with those tart, stony Niagara signatures. An absolute perfect balance between sweetness and acidity. Bottom line? I want to stock up on this one. (Carl Boucher, Sept 19, 2025).

The Story Behind Ferox
It all started on a cold November day in 2015, when Fabian and Stephanie hand-harvested Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes for their very first wine. Just three barrels were made—small, humble, but full of promise.
From that moment, Ferox began to take shape. The name, meaning fierce in Latin, captured their spirit: bold, determined, and unafraid to carve their own path. In 2018, they found their home in Niagara-on-the-Lake, purchasing the historic Rancourt vineyard, already planted with mature Bordeaux vines on some of the region’s best soils.
Since then, Ferox has grown into a place where tradition and innovation meet—rooted in respect for the land, guided by meticulous vineyard practices, and driven by a love of sharing wines that reflect both place and passion.
The Winemakers & Owners
For Fabian Reis, winemaking isn’t a career—it’s a family inheritance that began in Stuttgart, Germany in 1893. As a sixth-generation vintner, he grew up surrounded by vines, barrels, and the rhythm of harvest. Yet his journey wasn’t just about following tradition. After moving to Niagara as a teenager, Fabian eventually returned to Germany for five years to deepen his craft at one of Europe’s most respected winemaking schools. When he came back to Niagara, he carried with him both centuries of heritage and a determination to make wines that expressed his own voice.
Beside him is Stephanie Reis, his wife and partner in every sense (whose family, incidentally, comes from the same part of Germany as Fabian's!). A Niagara native with a background in sport and event marketing, she later trained as a certified sommelier. Stephanie has become the heart of the Ferox experience, welcoming guests, telling the stories behind each bottle, and ensuring that the winery feels less like a business and more like a family table.
And then there’s winemaker Cubby Sadoon, who once thought his future was in medicine. But while working part-time in Niagara’s wine industry during his studies, he discovered that wine offered the perfect blend of science and creativity. He never looked back. In 2020, Cubby joined Ferox, bringing with him a decade of curiosity, training, and passion.
Together, this trio forms the winemaking soul of Ferox—a team bound by friendship, shared purpose, and an unwavering belief in what Niagara’s vineyards can express.
