Painted Rock is one of the most iconic wineries in British Columbia, and the “Red Icon” is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after wines in Canada. The 2019 Red Icon pours an intensely deep purple and opens with highly expressive aromas of black cherries, blackberries, plum, raspberry preserves, crushed flowers, pine, minty herbs, and oak.

On the palate, it is full-bodied with a graceful midweight texture, soft yet expressive tannins, and beautifully integrated oak. Flavours of dark fruits like black currant and black cherries dominate the front palate, while tobacco, vanilla, and coffee mocha develop on the mid-palate. This is followed by savoury notes, oak spices, and a burst of cracked black pepper towards the finish.

This wine showcases stunning structure, characteristic of the 2019 vintage. While powerful, this Bordeaux blend also exhibits elegance, delivering unparalleled complexity. It will evolve, becoming even richer and softer over the next 3–5 years. I wouldn’t be surprised if this wine continues to shine for another decade.
