2020 Clos du Soleil “Winemaker’s Series” Expression

A shiny ruby red colour with an expressive but delicate bouquet of violet, raspberry and black cherry aromas. In the mouth, it is a full-bodied, soft and velvety wine, with hints of spices, tobacco and chocolate, thanks to 15 months in French barrels with just around 20% new. This is a rare wine with just around 100 cases made, with a dominant share of Malbec at 60%, and very well complimented by Cab Sauv and Cab Franc. Each varietal brings something distinctive to the blend: the Malbec shows a floral aspect, wonderful depth and blue fruit components. The Cab Sauv brings structure and back bone alongside tobacco notes. The Cab Franc brings cherry, cherrywood, chocolate and enhances the gently released oak spice on the finish.
