2021 Blasted Church Mourvèdre-Syrah-Grenache

This unique French Rhone Valley inspired blend is fresh and lively showing the versatility of the South Okanagan, showcasing one of the very few vineyards (located in Osoyoos) that grows Mourvèdre and Grenache. Co-fermented with Syrah from Oliver, these three grape varietals spent 16 months in third filled and neutral barrels, showing a clean and well defined medium bodied red blend. On the nose, aromas of ripe raspberry, red cherry, plum, dark chocolate and a hint of fresh herbs announce a well-rounded and balanced wine. The palate offers distinctive flavours of ripe red berries, blueberry jam, a hint of olive tapenade, smoked meat, chocolate fudge and vanilla. The tannins are soft but present, while the acidity is bright and efficient across the spectrum making your mouth water at the right time. A white pepper sensation lingers and hangs around for a clear 20 seconds after your sip. One of the most intriguing and interesting $40 wines I’ve had.
