2021 Vineland “Bo-teek Vineyard” Clone 76 Chardonnay

Unfined and unfiltered, this single clone, single vineyard Chardonnay spent 30 months in neutral French oak barrels and was bottled on its own lees. For this reason, the wine is sometimes just a little cloudy, and yet it is a clear representation of the Twenty Mile Bench with a classic flinty nose and orchard aromas, lemon meringue, orange blossom and a hint of caramel. The palate is generous in texture and directional in flavours, especially on the finish. This wine gets me thinking and reflecting on how much this sub-appellation has to offer, with such a complex combination of citrus, orchard fruits and minerality. Ambrosia apple, sweet lime and vanilla custard, plus a lemon peel grip on the finish including a hint of ginger and white pepper…and a lingering, salty sensation on my lips. Yummmmyyyy! This wine punches way above its weight class.
