There's a stunning similarity between this Chardonnay and the Traditional Method Sparkling from the same CanyonView Vineyard. The vintage and the terroir are absolutely shining here. Bright acidity, energy, tension and minerality are on full display. Add to this: a beautiful oak profile with one new French oak barrel in the blend (plus five neutral oak) that brings texture and complexity. On the nose, aromas of pear, peach, lime and chamomile. Meanwhile the palate is rich but precise with flavours of lemon curd, yellow apple, pear and a hint of white pepper. Only 140 cases made!

This extremely rare traditional method sparkling wine was made with zero dosage, allowing the winemaker to showcase a pure expression of the spectacular CanyonView Vineyard on the Summerland Bench. 100% Chardonnay, filled with energy and tension, with a creamy texture. On the nose, citrus, Meyer lemon, white flowers, slight toastiness and a touch of tropical fruits. On the palate, a blend of citrus fruits, a touch of grilled pineapple, a hint of white spice, and a long, lasting, mineral finish. You'll very likely find a very particular stoney minerality across all wines coming from CanyonView Vineyard - a strong indicator that you're tasting terroir. Only 50 cases made!

This 2024 Albarino is part of Lightning Rock's 'Cross Border Collection' that resulted from the deep freeze which destroyed much of BC's 2024 grape crop. Lightning Rock winemaker Sebastien Hotte supervised the grape growing season himself in the Horse Heaven Hills appellation of Washington State and brought back the grapes to Summerland to process with his usual team. Fermented on it's lees, 30% in stainless and 70% in concrete for six month, this wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered. A restrained and precise style of Albarino, with great acidity, freshness and precision. On the nose: zesty lime, pear, yellow apple, and passionfruit. The palate has great texture and mirrors the nose, leading to a nice long finish. When you think this wine is over, it just keeps going, which is impressive.

Sourced from the iconic Golden Mile Slopes near Oliver, this bright and classic Cab Franc demonstrates the full potential of this great varietal in the South Okanagan. The Lightning Rock house style prevails: bright, lower alcohol, acidity-driven...but also the ripeness you'd expect from the Golden Mile. Wild fermented and aged for ten months in neutral oak, this wine is purely Cab Franc for Cab Franc lovers. Nose of red fruits, red cherry, raspberry, red currant, red pepper jelly and espresso. The palate is mid-bodied, well layered, extremely well balanced and flows without a hiccup. Pure flavours of black raspberry, strawberry jam, a hint of cranberry (for a peak of acidity) and highlighted by a long, lingering, spicy South Okanagan signature finish. This is the complete other side of Syrah compared to the carbonic Syrah also made by Lightning Rock. This Syrah is dark, savoury, classic cold climate Syrah. With only 56 cases made, this is an extremely rare chance to taste a well-made, high scoring Syrah grown in Summerland. Built for the long run, this low alchol, concentrated Syrah offers aromas of tanned leather, dark cocoa, tobacco, black cherry, blackberry, and dry herbs. Savoury palate, rich and velvery texture, with flavours of dark fruit, mocha, sweet tobacco leaves, blackberry and blueberry. The finish has a graphite mineral component straight from the vineyard terroir, black cracked pepper, and cinammon. I can see 10 more years in the cellar with this wine.

This is my first taste of the 2024 reds from Washington State that are Crafted in BC...and this carbonic Syrah doesn't disappoint! Fresh, light and fruity, this is exactly what I was expecting for this style of wine, except even more fun. The nose is very expressive expressive with meaty aromas, leather, violet and a burst of black cherry. The palate dances with fresh acidity, a burst of black cherry, raspberry, blueberry, a hint of fresh herbs, with lingering cloves and black cracked pepper on the finish. This is fruit-forward wine that deserves to be served slightly chilled. One of my favourite reds of the summer! (Carl Boucher, August 2025).

The Story Behind Lightning Rock

Perched high in Summerland overlooking Okanagan Lake, this little estate with a big personality is proving that farming with heart—and a healthy dose of grit—can create wines that feel electric in the glass.

Here, organics aren’t a marketing buzzword. They’re the heartbeat. Compost from last year’s prunings feeds the soil. Bugs, birds, and even the occasional bear are part of the ecosystem. Nothing is wasted, nothing is forced. The result? Grapes that sing with purity, and wines that taste like they couldn’t have come from anywhere else.

Each vineyard has its own voice:

Canyonview, carved into the edge of Trout Creek Canyon, whispers Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with depth and elegance.

Elysia, the home block, shouts from its steep slopes with Pinot Noir, Syrah, and new Riesling plantings.

Trestle Beach, the “baby plot” planted in 2020, hums with vibrant Gamay Noir beside the iconic Kettle Valley Rail trestle.

And then there’s the team. Vigneron Sébastien Hotte (or “Seb” to friends) brings a low-intervention, terroir-first philosophy honed at benchmark wineries. He’s joined by owners Ron and Tracy Kubek, whose mix of vision, humour, and community spirit has made Lightning Rock more than a winery—it’s a gathering place.

Their commitment extends beyond the vineyard rows: from supporting adaptive skiing at Big White to fundraising for barrier-free wilderness access, Lightning Rock is about building joy and inclusion, one glass at a time.

How does this work?

Carl's Wine Club is Canada's first pan-Canadian, direct-to-consumer wine club.

Is the order page secure?

Yes, absolutely! We use a secure website and order page, with all credit card information processed by a PCI-compliant payment processor and bank-grade SSL encryption of your data.

What size bottles will I receive?

All bottles are 750ml (standard wine bottles) unless otherwise noted. There may be a different size bottle for instance for Magnums at 1.5L or smaller bottles for Ice Wines.

How does shipping work?

Shipping of wines is done from the featured winery directly, unless you're ordering a 'Mystery Pack' or other limited edition pack. Shipping is available to Canadian locations only. Shipping is usually completed by Courier, however Canada Post is used for rural or remote locations. You will receive a tracking number from the winery or courier system. Someone over the legal drinking age must be present at the time of delivery and provide ID to the delivery driver (this is a legal requirement). Please do your best to ensure that an adult is available to receive the order on the anticipated delivery date.
