2019 Blasted Church Merlot

Personally, I believe the sweet-spot to open a BC Merlot is at the half decade mark, and this one surely proves my theory. This wine is absolutely shining at the moment, firing on all cylinders, and entering its prime window of drinkability. From the Estate Vineyard on the Skaha Bench, using a split of French and American oak (20% new) for 20 months, this Merlot is soft, concentrated and displays a classic 2019 freshness that I like and appreciate at the highest level. On the nose, distinctive aromas of dark fruits, floral and savoury notes, tobacco and cedar. The palate reflects the aromas to a T, also delivering crème de cassis, dark cherry, sweet tobacco leaves, black licorice and integrated tannins. It finishes with a crescendo of oak spices and white pepper lifted by the on-point acidity level. This wine will age for another 5 to 7 years without a blink. I’m a big fan…. 800 cases made.
