This is another stunning “Tradition“ series wine from Domaine Queylus. This might be the best tier of the Queylus portfolio, when looking at the fantastic point vs the overwhelming quality. Like the other wines made by Kelly Mason, this Pinot Noir is 100% wild ferment – with an aging process of 18 months in French oak barrels. On the nose, aromas of blue plum, blackcurrant, red licorice, violet, tobacco and damp earth show the true “Pinot” style of the house: medium plus body with noticeable earthiness. On the palate, sweet edges of raspberry jam are very appealing. In the core, you’ll also find red cherry, milk chocolate and vanilla. Sauteed shiitake mushrooms and orange tea also support the fruity notes of this wine. Great depth of flavours and good weight on the mid-palate highlight this very well priced Pinot Noir, along with lingering clove flavours on the finish. (Carl Boucher, September 15, 2024).
