2022 Blasted Church “Swear to God” Chardonnay

From the Blasted Church home vineyard on the Skaha Bench, this Chardonnay was fermented and aged on its lees in French barrels (33% new and 67% neutral) for 10 months. Aromas include green apple, lemon twist, orange blossom, chamomile and oak spices. The palate is soft and balanced, the oak is omnipresent but well integrated and efficient in texture, and the length is noticeable. Flavours include citrus and green apple and a hint of peach and blood orange. A welcomed vanilla and almond cookie component fills the mid palate. The finish lingers and offers light spices, developed slowly in the new French oak barrels, and the classic minerality of the sub-appellation sparks the finish with a light salty sensation on the upper lip. The 2022 vintage was nerve-wracking up till the start of September, where mother nature rewarded our farmers with one of the most beautiful Autumns on record in British Columbia. I really enjoy this wine!
