But what Brian Schmidt poured that day while we were at Vineland Estate—straight from the back of his truck—stopped us in our tracks.

On one side of the road we were on: Clone 327. Deep roots, 1996 vines. Power and gravitas.

On the other: Clone 214. Planted a decade later. Aromatic lift and finesse.

Today, those two wine personalities come together in one bottle—our first-ever 5th Anniversary Member’s Celebration wine.

Sourced from the iconic Bo-Teek Vineyard at Vineland Estate, and raised in a trio of amphora, barrel, and stainless steel, this is Niagara Cab Franc at its soulful best.

On the nose, it’s a cascade of blue plum, wild raspberry, black cherry, and blackcurrant, layered with violet petals, espresso, cedar, and cigar box spice.

The palate? Rich and textured—starting soft and generous, then pulling inward with focus and direction. You’ll find black forest cake, dark berries, red pepper jelly, bitter chocolate, and sweet tobacco.

The finish lingers long, laced with cracked pepper, cinnamon, and cool-climate minerality. Elegant now, but with the structure to cellar beautifully through 2030.

This is the wine that celebrates five years of stories, memories, and shared discovery.

Crafted by Brian Schmidt, the renowned vigneron at Vineland Estates, this wine is sourced from the exceptional Bo-Teek Vineyard and vinified using a mix of clay amphora, oak barrels, and stainless steel. An exclusive members-only release, this 100% Cabernet Franc—50% Clone 327 and 50% Clone 214—captures the heart of Niagara terroir with a beautiful balance of elegance and complexity. On the nose, it opens with expressive layers of blue plum, wild raspberry, black cherry, and blackcurrant, accented by floral notes of violet, cigar box, espresso coffee, and a touch of oak spice. The palate is lush and generous at first, then tightening into a more focused and structured core. Flavours evolve from black forest cake with whipped cream and chocolate, to darker tones of blackberry, black cherry, red pepper jelly, bitter dark chocolate, and sweet tobacco leaf. The finish is long, spicy, and sophisticated—lingering with cracked black pepper, a hint of white pepper, cinnamon, and oak. This wine brings together the personalities of both clones, shining through the lens of the spectacular 2022 vintage. One of the most unique projects in Canada’s wine history is the Infinity Vintage “Legacy” by Brian Schmidt at Vineland Estates. Brian often got asked this question and set out to answer it with this wine: how do you describe a very specific parcel of land without talking about the vintage variation? The Legacy Cabernet Franc bottling is a blend of consecutive years (from 2010 to present) telling the story of the Bo-teek vineyard, the story of its growth, the story and the purity of this very unique Cabernet Franc clone 214. On the nose, this wine displays some very classic Cab Franc aromas like violet, licorice, raspberry jam, roasted red pepper and clove. On the palate, this is an absolute Niagara Masterpiece: creamy, velvety, rich, dense, pure, suave and concentrated with multiple layers of flavours. To start, the front palate offers red and blue fruits like ripe raspberry, strawberry, blueberry and plum, while the mid palate is packed with licorice, cappuccino, roasted pepper jelly, mint, dark chocolate and chewy tobacco leaves. The finish is as impressive and complex as the rest of the wine with white pepper, chilli pepper, Christmas spice and long and tenacious but soft tannins. Tasting this wine feels like being part of a special piece of history which will fill your senses with emotion. (CWC, 16/11/22, re-tasted in June 2025).

How does this work?

Carl's Wine Club is Canada's first pan-Canadian, direct-to-consumer wine club.

Is the order page secure?

Yes, absolutely! We use a secure website and order page, with all credit card information processed by a PCI-compliant payment processor and bank-grade SSL encryption of your data.

What size bottles will I receive?

All bottles are 750ml (standard wine bottles) unless otherwise noted. There may be a different size bottle for instance for Magnums at 1.5L or smaller bottles for Ice Wines.

How does shipping work?

Shipping of wines is done from the featured winery directly, unless you're ordering a 'Mystery Pack' or other limited edition pack. Shipping is available to Canadian locations only. Shipping is usually completed by Courier, however Canada Post is used for rural or remote locations. You will receive a tracking number from the winery or courier system. Someone over the legal drinking age must be present at the time of delivery and provide ID to the delivery driver (this is a legal requirement). Please do your best to ensure that an adult is available to receive the order on the anticipated delivery date.
