2020 Burnt Ship Bay “Reserve” Red
- 92
- Ontario VQA Niagara-on-the-Lake
- 52% Merlot, 35% Cab Franc, 13% Malbec
Another outstanding value Red, this time showcasing the stunning 2020 vintage and with added barrel aging time. This wine could easily be in the $30 category, and yet it remains at the $19.95 including tax price point. It’s shocking to see such a great wine for less than a green bill. This wine is fantastic cellar insurance for drinkers of big reds. Heavy on Cabernet Franc, the aromas of this wine offer ripe raspberry, dark cherry, cassis, dark chocolate and cigar box, all well-defined, clear and precise, announcing a hot and long developing vintage. The palate is rich and bold, showing depth and concentration. Flavours of dark cherry, raspberry jam, blueberry liquor, dark chocolate, vanilla and chewy tobacco leaves are well melted together to bring a now homogenous wine, hitting its peak NOW. The finish is very impressive and long, offering white pepper, oak spices and lengthy soft tannins. These kinds of well-rounded wines are not usually available at this price point. Very impressive.
