2020 Leaning Post “Senchuk Vineyard” Pinot Noir 🔥 94+pts

Leaning Post has dropped another “BOMB”… everything Ilya Senchuck is doing the last couple of years is turning into liquid gold. This Pinot Noir is big, bold and powerful. This is definitely the boldest of all the Pinots to date from Leaning Post, absolutely no doubt about that. In a sense this is a bit of a stylistic departure from previous Leaning Post Pinots, but on the other hand, this wine delivers the authenticity of a vintage like 2020, and Ilya was true to the vintage. With 18 months of barrel aging (33% new French oak, 50% neutral) and naturally fermented in concrete tanks, this wine has preserved its incredible sense of place and stunning flavour definition. On the nose the wine is expressive and exuberant offering aromas of dark cherry, blueberry jam, cedar, forest floor and freshly picked thyme. The palate is generous, layered and concentrated with flavours of dark cherry, red cherry, cranberry jam, wild strawberry, a hint of cocoa, red licorice, plus a savoury component past the mid palate. It finishes with Chinese five spices perfectly married with a mineral, graphite-like component. Despite its full body delivery, this wine has maintained a fresh acidity which fares very well for a cellaring. I can see this wine shining for 15 years or more. (Carl Boucher, June 5, 2024).
