2022 Black Market “Secret Society” Red Blend | 92pts

Darker in colour, more expressive in general, and filled with crunchy fruits, this new vintage of the Secret Society Red absolutely “POPS” right out of your glass. This may be the very best Secret Society Red to date from Black Market… ever! On the nose, aromas of red currant, black cherry, wild raspberry, milk chocolate, mint, and a hint of sage offers a fresh and exuberant profile. with 21 months in barrels (French & American) and just under 15% of new barrels, this wine shows great acidity, but also good depth of concentration and feisty tannins. Flavours of red cherry, dark cherry, crushed raspberry, cassis and blueberry coulis, joining a meaty and expansive mid-palate, clearly influenced by a generous amount of Syrah. The back-end delivers mocha, savouriness and oak spice, which lingers on a lengthy and bright finish. Very impressive! (Carl Boucher, September 18, 2024).
