The Garnet Valley Ranch is a very special vineyard, and the grapes coming out of this Summerland vineyard all share a common characteristic: and stoney and long-lasting salty minerality. It shows up as much in the Chardonnay that it does in the Pinot Noir. This brilliant single vineyard Chardonnay offers aromas of citrus, pear, white flowers and a hint of fresh herb. With full malolactic conversion and over 10 months of lees aging, this unoaked Chardonnay (fermented and aged in clay amphorae and concrete eggs) displays a wonderful texture, perfectly complementing a striking, mouth-watering acidity. Flavours of lime, orange peel, honey melon, red licorice and lemon meringue, this Chardonnay is a blend of easy drinking with good amounts of cerebral complexity. Like I mentioned previously, the finish has to be the high-point of the experience with that stoney/salty Garnet Valley finish. (Carl Boucher, October 30, 2024).
