2020 Bella Terra Merlot | 92pts

This Merlot was my favourite of the 2020 releases when I tasted it in barrel. While it needs more time to rest and settle, it is obvious that this wine will become an absolute Rockstar. Big, bold and juicy: this Merlot is a heavyweight contender. If you like your wine lean and light, I suggest passing on this one. Dark plum, cassis, raspberry jam, cocoa and tobacco on the nose. The palate is rich and complex with blackberry, dark plum, bitter chocolate, rosemary and vanilla on full display. The long and spicy finish melts into soft tannins, announcing a very long aging potential. This wine was even better on the second day. Keep this one in the cellar if you can, you’ll be rewarded. Still a baby and needs more time, but it is starting to show some of it's true colours. The oak is integrating with up front tannins at the moment. I suggest re-visiting in one or two years as this wine reaches it's full potential - unless you likes your wines young and feisty like I do. (Carl Boucher, 03/06/2026).
