2020 Leaning Post Cuvee Winona | 92pts

Cuvee Winona is an homage of the town the Senchuk’s settled and built their dream of owning their own winery. From one of the greatest vintages in recent memory, this 2020 blend of Merlot and Cab Franc delivers a great deal of power but is also very approachable. The Merlot was aged in French Oak barrels (15% new) and the Cab Franc was aged in concrete in order to preserve its fruity character. On the nose, you’ll discover great aromas of cassis, red cherry, blueberry jam, a burst of cedar and a hint of fresh herbs. The palate is broad and generous, soft and compelling, highlighting flavours of raspberry, blue plum, current, cassis, mocha and tobacco on a long finish. This last step reveals a burst of white pepper, chocolate and clove, that enhances the finish greatly. I wouldn’t be surprised if this wine can age for 10 years, even if this was not the original intent for this wine. Well done Ilya Senchuk. (Carl Boucher, November 9, 2024). 640 cases made.
