This is a true classic from the Malivoire portfolio. Producing Foch since the very beginning, they’re known for crafting some of the best examples of this varietal in Niagara. Sourced from vines planted in 1972 (an “Old Vines” designation that’s well earned), this is the perfect BBQ wine. Fermented in stainless steel and aged for over a year and a half in American oak, this wine is solidly built, offering depth and impressive texture. On the nose, it shows unique and compelling aromas of black fruits, raw meat, dried herbs, and Christmas spices. The palate is savoury and rich, with soft, mild tannins and flavours of blackberry, preserved plum, dried blueberry, sweet tobacco leaf, and dark chocolate. A blast of iron—almost bloody—emerges after the mid-palate, delivering that unmistakable and unique character you only get from a really good Foch. (Carl Boucher, February 19, 2025)
