A Cabernet Sauvignon for under $30 including tax? Sign me up please…this is a rarity these days. Now, a very good Cab Sauv at this price point is almost impossible to find. That’s exactly what the “Triomphe” Cab Sauv delivers: an incredible quality to price ratio, and probably the best Niagara Cab Sauv in that category outside of the 2020 vintage. On the nose, classic aromas of black currant, cassis, blackberry, licorice, graphite and leather. The palate is soft and creamy while grippy tannins are as expected and bring life and energy in this Cabernet. The wine is fresh and expressive, delivering flavours of blackberry, dark cherry, cassis, kirsch, with sweet cherry cream past the mid-palate complement the bright acidity. The finish is seductive and loaded with intriguing spices like cloves and cardamom but also a blend of pink and green pepper while having a nice lingering mineral sensation.
