Right in line with the 94 point 2021 vintage, the 2022 has great layers, a seamless transition between the front and back palate, and tannins that are present but purposeful. The nose is all about black fruits with a little bit of pencil lead and a great deal of florality such as violets and potpourri. The palate is rich, layered, complex and dense. This wine is built for at least 8 years of aging, which is unusually long for Gamay. Flavours include black raspberry, red currant, coffee grind, a little bit of fresh herbs, and a noticeable spice on the VERY long finish led by black cracked pepper and cinnamon. It's also worth mentioning that the pencil lead graphite detected on the nose comes back swinging on the palate, which really connects with the famed Wismer-Foxcroft terroir. This is terroir-driven Gamay at it's best, and an outstanding demonstration of the potential of Wismer-Foxcroft for Gamay. We already knew Wismer-Foxcroft is outstanding terroir for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but now the Gamay is also reaching Grand Cru status. (Carl Boucher, August 30, 2024). 216 cases made.
