The 2022 Black Market Cabernet Franc is my favorite vintage of the past three years. Aged for 21 months in neutral French oak, this wine has preserved its varietal characteristics while maintaining a beautifully balanced interplay of alcohol, texture, and acidity. On the nose, enticing aromas of red cherry, raspberry jam, blue plum, milk chocolate, fresh herbs, and purple flowers create an inviting bouquet. The palate is soft and generous, showcasing ripe tannins and impressive complexity. Flavors of red cherry, black cherry, red licorice, chocolate brownies, and vanilla unfold gracefully, leading to a long finish with loads of white pepper. The acidity is perfectly dialed in, enhancing the wine’s overall structure. Already showing wonderful potential, this wine will continue to evolve for another five years if cellared properly.
