ON, VQA Niagara Peninsula 49% Pinot Noir, 39% Gamay, 12% Cabernet Franc | Dry | 12.0% ABV 91+pts Carl’s Wine Club This great blend of Gamay, Pinot Noir & Cab Franc comes together nicely, showcasing mouth-watering acidity and a soft mid-palate. The Gamay prevails on the nose, with expressive aromas of ripe raspberry, strawberry cream, crabapple and a hint of purple flowers. The palate is very easygoing and could be the perfect crowd pleaser for the holidays with great food versatility. Flavours of strawberry, rhubarb, raspberry, a line of lemon zest and green lime, while a spark of tartness on the back palate adds complexity to a highly quaffable wine. It finishes on a note of caramel candied apple, make it even more pleasing. we tasted the wine is Magnum and it was absolutely fantastic. one of the best rose of the 2023 vintage.(Carl Boucher, June 20, 2025). 650 cases made. What a terrific value Chardonnay… bright, crisp and full of energy! The grapes for this wine were mostly sourced from the Lincoln Lakeshore appellation (57% from the Senchuk Vineyard and Grimsby Hillside Vineyard combined) and the Beamsville Bench (43% from Hemeris Vineyard). 100% fermented in concrete tanks using indigenous yeast (wild ferment), this Chardonnay was aged for 8 months on its own lees to add a great textural component, bringing more substance and layers than I was expecting for the price-point (only $23…are you kidding me). On the nose, aromas of lemon curd, lemon meringue, orange blossom, pineapple and jasmine flowers are expressive announcing a burst of freshness. On the palate, flavours of lemon custard, Key lime, pear, and a hit of tropical fruits enhance the mid palate. On the finish, a wet stone mineral-like sensation adds length and textural contrast. To say that this wine over-delivers could be an understatement! (Carl Boucher, November 23, 2024). 550 cases made.

- 100% Chardonnay
A terrific result at this price point, offering a beautiful balance between texture and precision. Two-thirds of the fruit comes from the Estate Senchuk Vineyard and was natively fermented in French oak for 10 months. On the nose, this Chardonnay is richly aromatic with bright notes of citrus (lemon curd and orange blossom), melon, and peach. The same profile continues on the palate with a silky opening that slowly builds to a broad mid-palate and long finish with lingering ocean and seashell saltiness. Crisp wet stone minerality and juicy acidity lift and support the generous fruit and provide the framework for a decent aging potential. A creamy texture carries lush, ripe tropical fruits, ample richness and toasty nuances in this balanced, medium-bodied wine. The layering of yellow-golden apples, mandarin, vanilla angel cake, white peach and almonds is impressive and delicious. (Carl Boucher, November 23, 2024) 308 cases made

Made from some of the most sought-after sources of Pinot Noir across Niagara and aged in French oak barrels for 15 months, Ilya Senchuk has crafted another textbook Pinot—funky, expressive, refined, and seductive. Showing its youth, this Pinot took a little time to open up, but when it gets going… OMG—this is exceptional! Beautiful nose of violet, crushed raspberry, cherry fruits, stony wet forest floor, and a hint of brown sugar. On the palate, the tannins are compelling, and the acidity lifts the fruit component perfectly. Flavours of red cherry, strawberry, oak spice, and a sexy, savoury aspect make this wine complete and exciting. We don’t often see Pinot Noir at this level of quality for just around $35. Sometimes, a fantastic wine doesn’t need to be a single-vineyard expression—cuvées like this are always a joy to discover. Small quantity, so this one will disappear fast. Balanced, approachable, and incredibly well-priced, this blend—mostly Merlot—showcases impressive depth despite the challenges of the 2021 vintage. Wild cherry, black raspberry, tobacco, and graphite are some of the key aromas I found in this expressive showing. Grippy fine tannins are met with ample lifted acidity, resulting in a structural wine with great texture. This aspect truly led me to guess a much higher price point in a blind tasting. Flavours of cassis, black raspberry, dark chocolate, a hint of red pepper jelly, and a lengthy finish that lingers with iron-like minerality and oak spices. Powerful and finessed, with effortless intensity. (Carl Boucher, May 29, 2025) 650 cases made

OMG… this Merlot is an absolute stunner! Bold, rich, concentrated, with an impressive structure on full display. The hot and dry 2020 vintage was perfect to highlight all of the best characteristics of Merlot, and Ilya was able to showcase the full spectrum and more. On the nose, you’ll discover very complex and expressive aromas of ripe dark fruits like black cherry and blackberry, dark chocolate, pencil lead, leather and a hint of dried sage. The palate is soft, suave, textural and fantastically layered. On the front palate: flavours of dark cherry, crushed raspberry and blue plum. The mid palate delivers some elements of smoked meat, dark chocolate, violets and a hint black olive. The back palate and the finish are well in sync with a generous offer of black licorice, charcoal-like sensations and a long, mouth-watering finish with loads of oak spices. If you lay this bottle down for the next 6 years, you can expect a world class experience when you pop the cork. (Carl Boucher, November 23, 2024). 400 cases made.

The Story & People Behind Leaning Post
It’s easy to see the vision the Senchuks had today, but the path to get here had humble beginnings.
In 2011, Ilya & Nadia Senchuk acquired a farmhouse nestled on 11 acres of land with the dream of starting the winery. The property included an abandoned vineyard and barn that could only be restored by ‘crazy youths’ with more passion than brains.
Through hard work and dedication, they have built a winery that has surpassed even their wildest dreams.
The previously undiscovered vineyard on the estate has proved to be a hidden gem, consistently yielding superb fruit that translated into high-quality Pinot Noir & Chardonnay. These wines have garnered acclaim from both local and international wine critics, establishing Leaning Post Wines as a beacon of excellence in the region.
Leaning Post consistently ranks in the Top 10 Wineries in Ontario with critical scores from both domestic and international wine writers. Featured in top restaurants in Toronto, Montreal, London (UK), and Copenhagen, Leaning Post epitomizes small-scale, artisanal winemaking with minimal intervention, allowing the land to fully show itself in each glass.
Ilya hails from the "grape-growing Mecca" of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and dreamed of a career in food and wine. In 1998, Ilya read a magazine about the Brock Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Program, and he knew that was the path to take.
After 12 years as a winemaker in the Niagara region, Ilya dreamed of starting his own project alongside his family. Starting Leaning Post as a virtual label in 2009, he has now spent over 20 years making wine and exploring terroir in Niagara.
Since buying the farm in 2011 that now houses the winery, Ilya has become both a talented winemaker and project manager, turning his dream into reality.
