91pts Carl's Wine Club

This is a fun wine…a field blend of Merlot and Bacchus, both Estate fruits from the Black Market home vineyard. The wine was made using spontaneous wild fermentation and indigenous yeast. Nothing else but fermented grapes here… totally natural, and hence the name, ‘Nothing to Declare.’ This 100% natural 'pétillant naturel' shows great character, decent complexity, but most of all, a tonne of enjoyment. On the nose, pleasant aromas of wild raspberry, blueberry, pink grapefruit and fresh cut grass. The palate is also delightful, filled with explosive flavours of blueberry, raspberry, but also a hint of tropical fruits like grilled pineapple and guava. This is a very hard wine to get your hands on, unless you are a Black Market Wine Club Member. I prefer the profile of this sparkling wine served closer to room temperature (rather than chilled) – it brings more intensity and makes the bubbles shine.  (Carl Boucher, September 30, 2024).
