2017 Lightning Rock Elysia Vineyard Pinot Noir | 91pts

This eight-year-old Pinot Noir has held the road gracefully, showcasing Summerland’s aging potential. The profile of this 2017 is really Burgundian Côte de Nuits in terms of structure, tannins, and acidity. You can expect a darker Pinot with leather, earthiness, and licorice undertones.

The finish and the tannic structures really remind me of the newer 2022 Elysia Pinot I tasted earlier this month. Flavours of dark plum, red cherry, blackberry, dry sage, violet, and black licorice. The mid-palate is still fresh. The tannins are still active. The texture is soft and silky. The finish lingers with minerality and Christmas spice.

This wine has another 3 years to go before any decline.
