First and foremost, this is not your bold, grippy South Okanagan Syrah. This version is more of a soft and elegant version, showcasing the fruit itself with purity and authenticity. The major portion of the fruits were co-fermented on skins for 9 months while a small portion of Syrah was fermented alone in clay amphora to add spice and complexity. Matt Dumayne excels with a style that emphasizes transparency, finesse, and a classic, mid-weight structure, all of which work so well here. The nose offers compelling aromas of raspberry jam, maraschino cherries, stewed plum, pot-pourri and grilled meat. The palate offers its best expression at the moment with perfect balance of softness and remaining acidity. The flavours are well layered and deliver stewed plum, raspberry, black licorice, chewy tobacco leaves, gingerbread, and a mighty finish of crushed white pepper.
